The Ethiopian Association in the Greater Toronto
Area and Surrounding Regions is searching to fill the position
of an Executive Director. This is a full-time position with the
performance based renewal possibility.
Organizational Profile:
The Ethiopian Association in the Greater Toronto
Area and Surrounding Regions is a non-political, non-profit,
independent, community-based organization. It is governed by
thirteen elected Board members and managed by an Executive
Director. The Association has currently twenty-eight staff
working at two locations with multiple offices. It is also a
trustee for two organizations.
The Association is committed to facilitating the
full participation of immigrants in the social, cultural and
civic life of Canada, and to the preservation and promotion of
their rich and diverse cultural heritages.
As a community based service delivery agency, the
association delivers various programs and projects including
settlement and integration services, Language Instruction for
Newcomers to Canada (LINC), employment assistance, and program
for seniors, crisis counseling, HIV/AIDS awareness and
prevention. Its programs and services are provided without
discrimination to all persons meeting the requisite service
criteria.
Responsibilities of the Executive Director:

Managing the day-to-day activities of the Association
-
Managing the human and material resources of the Association
-
Developing and maintaining a highly motivated and productive
staff and volunteers
-
Increasing the organizational capacity of the association by
continuously identifying and securing funding, engaging the
community and forming partnership with public and private
institutions
-
Facilitating the implementation of the strategic and
operational objectives of the association
-
Supporting the board of directors in carrying out their
duties
-
Ensuring programs and projects are effectively managed and
periodically evaluated
-
Building and maintaining strategic partnerships with various
stake holders including funders, social agencies, service
providers and communities
-
Performing other duties as assigned by the president and
board of directors
Educational and Work Experience:
-
A
masters degree from a recognized university and at least
three years of managerial experience; or
-
A
BA degree from a recognized university at least five year
management experience in a community or social services
setting
-
No equivalency is considered.
Required Skills:
-
Excellent written and oral communication in English;
knowledge of Amharic language is essential; knowledge of
other Ethiopian languages and French is definite asset
-
Proven managerial skills including the ability to recruit,
supervise, and evaluate staff; financial and risk management
skills
-
Experience in managing and evaluating complex projects,
-
Experience working with various stake holders
-
Excellence in managing competing interests and conflict
resolution,
-
A working knowledge of relevant legislations including the
Employment Standard, Labour relation and human rights acts
-
Excellent interpersonal skills accompanied by sound judgment
-
Team builder, team player and viable stress management
skills

Track record of leading by example, taking initiatives,
resourcefulness, adaptability, inspiring shared vision, risk
taking, enabling others to act and motivating by celebrating
individual and team excellences

Salary: 58 -60K depend on education and
experience.
