HIV/AIDS Prevention Project

 

  Objectives:

 

  • Increase awareness about HIV/AIDS among Ethiopians in the GTA

  • Reduce unsafe sexual practices and promote HIV testing within the community to curb the spread of HIV and other Sexually transmitted diseases.

  • Enhance access to HIV/AIDS related education and services among members of the community.

  • Create dialogue within the community thereby reduce stigma on HIV/AIDS.

Activities include: workshops, outreach activities, one-on-one informational sessions, discussion forums and more.

Crisis Intervention and Counselling

The Ethiopian Association provides a free and confidential crisis intervention, short-term counselling, information and referral service for newcomers of Ethiopian Origin.

Ethiopian Assoication's

HIV/AIDS prevention/Education Program Provide the following services and activities targeting youth, women and adults with in the Ethiopian Community in the GTA.

 

  Objectives:

 

  • Support services for people living with HIV/AIDS from an anti oppressive and anti discriminatory perspectives
  • Support services for people living with HIV/AIDS from an anti oppressive and anti discriminatory perspectives
  • Workshops/forums
  • One-on-one HIV/AIDS information sessions
  • HIV/AIDS awareness Campaigns with flyers, brochures and posters.
  • Distribution of safer sex resources like condoms
  • Distribution of safer sex resources like condoms
  • Facilitating HIV/AIDS awareness messages by religious leaders
  • HIV/AIDS awareness media interactions Radio, TV , Newspapers, website
  • community members congregate such as faith based institutions, music concerts,  and newcomer shelters 
  • Organize community events including The Annual Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony and community forum  (BUNA TETU), World AIDS Day, Black History Month, Afro fest, and Caribana
  • Funded by Public Health Agency of Canada and Toronto Public Health
  •  Prevention and Education Program
