1.Workshops

HIV/AIDS Prevention Workshops: Six Workshops for all community members ( religious leaders, youth, women, university students, new comers and volunteers) are conducted every year. On January 25, 2007, Let's Get Tested Campaign was launched to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS among Ethiopian & Ethio-Canadian youth. On February 25, 2007 the campaign was discussed live on Voice of Ethiopian Association in the GTA by the Project Coordinator Ayda Assefa. Conference focusing on HIV / AIDS was held on March 16, 2007

2. Counselling Workshops:

On Saturday, May 28, 2005 counselling workshop for Religious leaders was conducted with the assistance of Ethiopian Association's Health and Social Committee. This workshop also designed for the Association's Staff & Board Members. Both attended the workshop on Saturday July 16, 2005. The Staff development Workshop on Basics of Applied Suicide Intervention conducted on July 22, 2006

3. Pathways and Barriers to Mental Health Care for Ethiopians in Toronto:

This workshop was conducted on March 19,2004 in cooperation with Centre for Addiction & Mental Health. Over seventy invited participants comprising Community Advisory Committee members, Research Scientists, Mental Health Care Professionals, Community Organization Representative, Prominent members of Ethiopian Community and several present and past Board members as well as staff members of the Association attended the Workshop.

On August 6, 2005 Workshop based up on symptoms of stress have been conducted for Ethiopian Community members Research HIV/AIDS Knowledge, Attitude, Practice and Beliefs of the Ethiopian Religious leaders in Toronto: The research was conducted by Ethiopian Association in Toronto Crisis Committee Professionals, based on findings of an epidemiological survey of Ethiopian religious leaders ( St. Mary of Zion Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church in Toronto, Debre Selam St. Michael Orthodox Church, The Ethiopian Evangelical Church in Toronto, Church of Gospel of Love, Koinonia Worship Center and Ethiopian Canadian Muslim Community Association in Toronto).

The objective of the study was to examine the knowledge, attitude, practice and beliefs of Ethiopian religious leaders in Toronto for the purpose of developing a strategy to address the issue of HIV/AIDS and related matter in the community. Active Participation of religious institutions and faith based organizations in the war against HIV/AIDS has proven to be effective and efficient.

WORLD AIDS DAY EVENT:

Ethiopian Association in the GTA & Surrounding Regions in partnership with Africans in Partnership Against Aids (APAA) and African Social Development Council (ACSDC) celebrated World Aids Day on Saturday December 3, 2005 from 2:00PM-6:00PM. at 40 Donlands Ave. Keynote speakers topics; Behavioral change & HIV/AIDS Prevention; Immigration & HIV/AIDS; Microbicides Research Update; Living with HIV/AIDS, stigma and testimonial; Lunch, Video presentation, modern and cultural shows were parts of the event. The Guest of Honour of the event was The Honourable George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care for Ontario.
