I. Ethiopian-Canadian
Day Celebration
Ethiopian-Canadian Day Celebration, established
in 1999, is an annual event held every September to celebrate
Ethiopian New Year and the multicultural diversity of Toronto.
The Ethiopian calendar consists of 13 months:
12 months with 30 days and 1 month (Pagume) with of 5 or 6 days
in leap years. Ethiopian calendar is seven years and eight months
behind the Gregorian calendar. Enkutatash - the Ethiopian New
Year is celebrated on September 11 or 12th according to the Western
or Gregorian calendar or September 1st according to the Ethiopian
calendar. Enkutatash is an important festival in lives of Ethiopians.
This year the celebration will be held on:
Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Christie
Pits Park

II. Victory of Adwa
Celebration
The Battle of Adwa had a significant national
& International consequences and it occupied a unique place
in Ethiopian and African history. In conjunction with black history
month, the Ethiopian community, Africans & all freedom loving
people attend the commemoration of the victory of Adwa
over colonial power every year since 1996. The 114-th Anniversary (1896-2010)
Celebration will be held on February 27, 2010 at 40 Donlands Ave 2 pm.
III. International Women's Day
(IWD)
Each year the Ethiopian Association celebrates
International Women's Day to honour the economic, political, and social achievements of women in
the
community while recognizing the challenges they face. The
celebration includes workshops, panel discussions, performances
on the future courses of actions were
proposed. This year's celebration of IWD was held on Saturday March
7, 2009 at the
Ethiopian Association.
IV. Volunteer Appreciation Day
On November 15, 2008, the Ethiopian Association
held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. This special day
is a wonderful opportunity to recognize volunteers who have
dedicated their time, energy, skills and talents to support the
Association in all ways possible. We especially acknowledge the tremendous
difference our volunteers make to enhance the economic and social
fabric of our community and Canada. Let's praise the outstanding contributions of
all volunteers and join them in their efforts to improve our communities.
