Ethiopian Millennium and New Year celebration in Toronto

Ethiopians around the world will ring year 2000 on September 12, 2007.

According to the Ethiopian calendar (EC), which is probably the most ancient calendar still in use, the Common Era began two thousand, opposed to two thousand seven years ago. This is the reason why Ethiopia greets the third millennium seven years and eight months after the West entered the 21st century.

The Ethiopian Association in the Greater Toronto Area and Surrounding Regions has organized a day long events to mark Ethiopia's entry into the third millennium and to celebrate Ethiopian New Year. The events will be held on Saturday, September 8th, 2007, at Christie Park, located at the intersection of Christie and Bloor in Downtown Toronto.

This day-long event will be an occasion for all persons of Ethiopian origin
to come together and celebrate their heritage along with their fellow Canadians.
